Where in the bible does it say “Money is the root of all evil.”?

Answer: nowhere! As usual, the left maliciously twists a passage of scripture, in this case preying on biblical illiteracy in an attempt to convince casual Christians that their religion supports socialism.  The true quote is this one, from the New Testament book of Timothy 6: 10 “For the love of money (and all it buys) placed before the love of God (in reality) is the root of all kinds of evil.”

Got that? If I may translate the proper quote into modern English: “Your life will be a shitstorm if you put materialism ahead of righteousness.” It does not condemn money or posessions as inherently evil in any way – it simply warns you not to sacrifice righteous behaviour in the service of protecting posessions. So don’t feel guilty if you have achieved financial success, especially if you strive to live a righteous life. A righteous life should indeed be rewarded – and  a religious person would tell you, if a righteous person is not rewarded in this life, he/she will be in the hereafter.

you got that wrong money is not the root of all evil. it is the Love of money is the root of all evil. there is a difference.

Who really gives a damn what an outdated book of fiction says about money. Money worshippers are shallow, and money is destroying our world. Kind of like religion.

Your argument is exactly the argument if the left, seems to me. Read what you wrote about not feeling guilty, and righteousness, and imagine that coming out of the mouth of obama. It fits. Liberals don’t say forfeit your money, don’t be capitalist, or even that socialism is better than capitalism. But what do you do with your capital, and how did you make it? Are you destroying communities, opportunities, or the environment? Those are evil acts, and when it happens, money is always at the root of it.

What on earth has the left got to do with it? Not a thing. Christians were preaching that money was (or love of money was) the root of all evil centuries before there was any left or right (which come from the two sides of the aisle in the British House of Commons, in case you’re wondering). The Catholic Church got a little lax on the subject over the centuries, and it took the Reformation and the new Protestant relgions to give this biblical verse some oompf. It’s mostly ignored now, and most hypocritically so by people who run Christian ministries for their personal enrichment. Or think that they can be filthy rich and true Christians at the same time.

  6. Could you please tell me which version of the bible this true quote is from? For in itself to me is seems to be a paraphrased taken from another source and not the actual quote from the bible..

This is the actual quote from the NKJV “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10.

Sorry, but your further translation of a translation stinks.
