Look out below…the Liberal ship keeps sinking deeper and deeper. Stephane Dion and Gerrard Kennedy have taken over the party’s nomination policies, and have decided some or all of the following:
- Women are retarted, thus needing special assistance to get a nomination;
- Finding the best-qualified or most-electable candidates is not a priority;
- Liberals will be judged not by the content of their character, but by the nature of their hormones;
- The ignorant, maleable public will fall for the implication that the Conservatives are sexist.
From Canadian Press’ best political reporter, Joan Bryden – “Liberals plan women-only nomination races”
Feb. 8, 2007 – OTTAWA – Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is prepared to take “extraordinary measures” to boost the ranks of women candidates in the next election, including barring men from seeking nominations in some ridings.
During last year’s leadership race, Dion promised that under his watch at least a third of the party’s candidates in the next election would be women.
But campaign organizers have concluded that the ambitious goal will be impossible to reach without some intervention to secure nominations for female candidates.
So-called green-light committees, set up to run the party’s nomination process in each province, have been empowered to ensure the 33 per cent target is met. Among other things, the committees can set dates for nomination meetings and approve or reject nomination papers from those seeking to carry the Liberal colours.
Where necessary, the committees will be able to simply refuse to allow men to run for nominations in some ridings.
“We’re trying to find the techniques that are consistent with our democratic processes to the greatest extent possible,” said Gerard Kennedy, Dion’s special adviser on election readiness.
This plan will both lock out quality candidates who happen to sport testes, and cast a dark cloud of doubt over the head of any female Liberal candidate as she tries to prove she truly deserves the chance to run for Parliament. All this in an effort to reach an arbitrary, artificial quota spewed by Dion during the leadership race in an attempt to woo the female vote.
As a conservative and a Harper Conservative, I’ll just say: bring it on! Keep on doin’ what you’re doin, Dion. The Liberal ship is about to hit Bikini Bottom.
